Welcome to TuneLand Yogi

Yogi's audio room M1098

I couldn't read the distance the speakers are from the back wall or speaker type.

Do you have any more tunes in the space?

Could you give me the basic construction of the room please.

Carpet?

Floor type?

Wall type?

Windows?

Ceiling height?

What's your system?

thanks

Michael, here is the response. Vandersteen 5A, Audible Illusion 3A, Quicksilver 135. Ceiling height is 10 feet with wood trim all around the ceiling corners. I also have a echo tune behind the listening chair. Speakers are 113 inch from the back wall and 120 inch from listening position ears. Speakers are 50 inch from the side walls and slightly about 10 degrees towed in.

Thanks

Yogi

Floor is carpeted. All walls and ceiling 3/4 inch cement board fully finished. There are no windows, the room is in the basement with concrete under carpet. Only the French door. I can send you the pictures if I can figure how to attach pictures.

Could you also give a brief description of your sound.

Hi Yogi

here are the pics

Yogi's audio room M1102

Yogi's audio room M1102a

I would replace the 2 mid-seam CT's with RT-XXLT's, and add a RT-XLT for the center. I would also strongly recommend 2 RTD-FS (you would be amazed)

Yogi's audio room M1103

Yogi's audio room M1103a

I would move my CT's that I took down to here, or one here and one on the other side of the room, put up these 2 ET's and again a RTD-FS here and on the other side.

Yogi's audio room M1104

Yogi's audio room M1104a

2 XXLT's, 1 XLT. Aslo right behind your chair would be a great place for 2 PZC-FS.

Would also love to build some Amp & Speaker Platforms and Cable Grounds for this setup.

One more thing Michael. I was trying to look up some of your products and their pricing but could not find it at your site or Music Direct. So, how do I get that information. As for stands for amps, all my equipment sits on stand and supported by your Audio Points. All mechanical stuff in addition sits on Vibraplane kind of device hand built by me.

What kind of speaker platform you talking about? Like star technologies stuff? I do not want to go overboard in expenses, specially now that we are retired and living off Social Sec.

Greetings Yogi

Welcome to Tuneland!

Is that a turntable you got at the top of your rack -- if it is, what is it and what is the arm and cartridge you use? Sonic would also be interested in how you made a DIY vibraplane.

There aren't too many vinyl fans who post regularly here, hope you could join the exchange about this venerable form of musick storage and playback.

Sonic

I have Roksan Xerxes 20 plus TT. SME tone arm an Audioquest 7000 fe5 cartridge. Making a floating platform is easy. Buy a Wheelbarrow tube from Home Depot. Inflate it with as little air as possible. Put a 3/4 inch MDF board on top and there you have it. You can tune the platform by amount of air in the tube.

Yogi

Good analog front end.  Thanks for the idea on making a pneumatic platform -- using a Brazilian Pine board from Michael instead of MDF on top of the inner tube may give some harmonically rich sounds.

Hi Sonic

A couple of things to think about, and Yogi might have a suggestion here too.

When you get the tube you want to make it so you can get to the intake.

Yogi's audio room M1137

What I did was made an extention, hooked it up and ran the extention through a hole in the shelf so it was easy to get to it. Mine had tuning boards both top and bottom and the extention came out the bottom.

Also, just a note, different manufacturers sound different and you can also use pool toys for lighter tables. You can also voice the sound of the materials with different finishes. It's lots of fun inflating & deflating. Be sure to keep your room at the same temp & humidity though or it can drive you nuts till you get use it it.

fun stuff Exclamation

Received additional room tunes as suggested by you except RTD FS. Installed them and improvements were immediate. Better defined vocals, sound stage and instruments. I will digest these improvements over next month. What improvements can I expect should I get 2 RTD FS? Yogi

Hi Yogi

I see a potential in 3 main places. First "glad we are getting the results we wanted".

1) the front stage area I think could use either a 2 V-shape floorstander setup, or the 3, one facing you and 2 flanking. This would be the first thing on my FS list.

2) I'm feeling that you might want to wipe out the rear sofa effect, by placing a V-shape behind your seat.

3) shaping the stage using the side walls.

Here are 3 choices of RT Floorstanders.

So are you suggesting a different set than before? There is no place behind listening chair. The listening chair touches the sofa, and I could not move it forward as that kills the depth. Next, are you suggesting either using RTDs or PZC. If so, my preference would be RTD as they would match with what I already have. What additional improvements can I expect by adding two of them behind speakers and two on the side walls. I will then be left with no more space in my room for anymore devices.

Hi Yogi

Thanks for the info. Above I linked to the 3 choices. The most common and least expensive would be the RTD like you mentioned. You can expect more depth, stage control and better tonal response. Your speakers and room will work more as one, giving you more dynamic range. Most of all though, you'll be able to go back through your music collection and listen to many recordings that may have done an OK job, but not quite all there. With the RTD-FS you'll hear far more of the recordings content. Using the RTD will re-arrange the pressure zones in the room to respond more in balance. I would say in your room you will get a 1-3db headroom gain over all.

Harold should be back in on the 22nd if you want to order. His tour takes him to the Needle Doctor this weekend, a couple of private clients, then back home on the 21st.

He's checking his mail on the trip harold@michaelgreenaudio.com

Once you get the FS (floor standing RTD), let me know and I'll show you some tricks. Other Tunees will help as well I'm sure.

Here's an update on Yogi's system.

Sorry if this is slow going, we have been doing some computer work and the integration is taking longer than we would have liked.

Let's start with the some pics.

note from Yogi

"Michael, attached is the Excel spread sheet. What has me foxed is that while
all frequencies are sum of Left and Right channel with both channels driven,
at 31.5 HZ it drops to -10db. Do you know why this would happen when
individual channels are OK driven individually."

Mike, I have sent you new pictures of my audio room and waiting to hear from you. The RTDFS have made a tremendous difference. There is some residual echo on the left corner that may be coming from the ceiling. I am curious to know, what else can be done with the RTDFS? Call me between 3-5PM on 678-243-5253. Yogi
